Patients attend special Halloween party to celebrate Premier Inn and Restaurants’ £10 million fundraising milestone

Patients from Great Ormond Street Hospital joined 2016 Great British Bake-Off winner Candice Brown and team at Premier Inn St Pancras for a very special Halloween party.

Twenty patients and siblings had a chance to have some fun, including spooky cup cake decorating, fiendish face painting and ghoulish games. Patients like Humaria, 6 from Walthamstow (pictured above right) who had intensive chemotherapy treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft tissue cancer which develops in the skeletal muscles.

Humaria’s dad Raheem said: “It’s a pleasure being a part of this event. It makes her forget what treatment she is going through. It’s great to meet so many like-minded families and it feels like a rainbow at the end of the tunnel.”

Momentous occasion

The special party hosted by team at Premier Inn St Pancras kicked off a weekend of Spooktacular fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. Customers and team at the popular hotel and restaurant chain including Beefeater, Brewer’s Fayre and Whitbread Inns took part in a whole host of activities including pumpkin decorating, and dressing up in costumes to raise money.

This weekend was particularly special as team members working for Premier Inn and Restaurants from across the UK celebrated raising £10 million for the hospital. This momentous occasion is thanks to five years of fundraising across all 760 Premier Inn and over 400 restaurant sites across Britain including the sale of over 40,000 Bernard Bears – the hospital’s mascot, bucket collections, raffles and customer fundraising initiatives including donations on the bill.

Candice Brown added “The party hosted by Premier Inn was a lot of fun, it was lovely to see the children laughing and playing after all that they have been through, it’s very inspiring.”

A huge thank you

Premier Inn and Restaurants has been supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity since 2012 and have been raising funds towards The Premier Inn Clinical Building, a brand new state-of-the-art facility where more seriously ill children will benefit from GOSH’s specialist care. Housed within the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre, the new medical facility which will officially open next year, will see children move out of a cramped hospital building built in the 1930s into brand new, modern wards where parents can stay comfortably with their child overnight while they are being cared for at GOSH.

Tim Johnson, Chief Executive, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the team and customers at Premier Inn and Restaurants for their fantastic fundraising efforts this weekend. We’re grateful to everyone who donated, all the money raised will help us to support the hospital to transform the lives of seriously ill children from across the UK.”

Simon Ewins, Chief Operating Officer, Premier Inn commented: “We are so proud to have reached this amazing fundraising milestone. The passion with which our teams dedicate towards raising money for GOSH seems to know no bounds, and I continue to be amazed by their creativity and enthusiasm, as well as by the generosity of our guests and suppliers.”
