RBC Trade for the Kids goes virtual and raises £168,000 for GOSH Charity

This week, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) hosted its first ever virtual edition of their annual RBC Trade for the Kids @Home event, donating over $4 million to more than 45 youth-focused charities around the globe.

This is the first time that RBC Capital Markets have hosted their annual event virtually. GOSH patients, families and staff helped bring the event to life as part of a series of creative videos shared with employees in the UK and eight other countries.

Along with those from GOSH, families and staff from five other leading youth charities also took part, including Ronald McDonald House Charities, Teenage Cancer Trust, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.

Mike Bowick, Head of Global Markets and President, RBC Capital Markets, said: “As one of the largest banks globally, it’s very important for RBC to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to helping our communities heal and grow stronger.…We are thankful for the invaluable work and immeasurable efforts our charity partners continue to put in, especially during this pandemic, and are also thankful to our employees for their tremendous ongoing support.”

A virtual celebration

To make this year’s virtual event one of celebration and connection with each charity, RBC staff had the opportunity to engage with GOSH charity, hospital staff and patient families via video.

GOSH Charity CEO, Louise Parkes, also joined the virtual event, speaking to CEO of RBC Europe, Dave Thomas about the importance of the partnership between RBC and GOSH Charity, and the difference the money makes to seriously ill children from across the UK and beyond, who are treated at GOSH.

Instead of a physical ceremony to announce the total of how much was raised throughout the day, charity CEOs, staff and former patients shared their heart-warming, surprise webcam reactions as the fundraising totals were revealed at the end of the day.

Building a ‘home away from home’

RBC Trade for the Kids @Home is one of the key annual events that celebrate the RBC and GOSH Charity partnership, which is now in its 11th year. All the money raised through the event will go towards RBC’s £1 million commitment to transform one of the family accommodation facilities at GOSH.

Royal Bank of Canada House will be a ‘home away from home' for families whose children are being treated at the hospital, providing them with vital comfort, convenience, and invaluable support during difficult times.

Louise Parkes, Chief Executive for GOSH Charity, said: “We are thrilled that GOSH Charity is part of Royal Bank of Canada’s first ever virtual RBC Trade for the Kids @Home global event and to receive £168,000 is fantastic. We truly value our longstanding and special partnership with RBC and their support is vital, particularly in these unprecedented times. All the money raised will help support the hospital and will make a real difference to seriously ill children and their families across the UK and beyond. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”
