Since 2025, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) and David Lloyd Clubs have partnered to raise more than £114,000 to support seriously ill children and their families.

David Lloyd Purley General Manager Rachel Nott shares her experience fundraising for GOSH Charity, what the partnership means to her and how her team is helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

‘I was amazed by GOSH’

"I come from a fitness background. Years ago, I decided to work out with a personal trainer, and I loved it so much that I became a personal trainer too. Now, I’m on the management side of things.

"As part of David Lloyd’s partnership with GOSH Charity, I was invited to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). I was truly amazed. There are outdoor areas, a school and a chapel. You have fun activities, you have accommodation for the whole family. I thought it was just a hospital that treated children, but GOSH offers so much more than medical care."

Fun-raising at David Lloyd

"All those resources at GOSH need funds, though, and after spending time at the hospital, I had a real urge to raise as much money as possible. I reached out to other David Lloyd managers in my region, asking them what fundraising activities had worked best for them in the past. I told them that we had to help GOSH Charity because they do amazing work – not just to support seriously ill children but their family and friends too.

"We had a lot of ideas! Members often use David Lloyd clubs for socialising, so we hosted a Christmas party for about 300 people. Members danced, had drinks and enjoyed spending time with their friends; it was a really great night. We did lots of other things as well. We held a bake sale, bike-a-thon, Zumba-a-thon and kids’ pyjama party, plus we sold GOSH Charity pin badges. We even got local businesses to donate prizes for a bingo, from massages to a luxury car for the weekend."

Coming to work and doing good

"During our fundraising, club members would come up to me and my team and say things like their granddaughter was at GOSH, or they knew someone there. So many people have an association with the hospital, and that’s what made fundraising feel even more real within our club. Our members were both donating money and telling us a story.

"The cause really does touch everyone’s hearts, not just those who have a personal connection to GOSH. You just say, “Great Ormond Street Hospital,” and people want to help. It was easy to fundraise, too – the charity provided incredible support throughout.

"My team members also get a lot from our relationship with GOSH Charity. They like coming to work and knowing that they're doing good. To be part of an activity, to raise money, I think having that involvement gives my team a great sense of achievement and a great sense of satisfaction."
